| Descrizione | Aperte, semivuote, con oggetti provvisoriamente appoggiati, le valigie della serie Is this your first time in Gaza? sono l’autoritratto di un esule che finisce per mettere se stesso nel bagaglio, senza però riuscire a ritrovarvi l’interezza della sua identità. Nato a Gaza, Hazem Harb si è trasferito a Roma all’età di quindici anni per studiare all’accademia. La distanza dalla sua terra, vissuta fin da giovanissimo, si traduce in queste fotografie nell’immagine di una condizione di perpetua precarietà e incompletezza. Il titolo, che rimanda alle domande che spesso vengono poste ai turisti, sembra ribaltare i termini della questione: la prima volta nella città di Gaza restituisce la necessità di un allontanamento, la presa di coscienza che quel soggiorno è destinato a non essere duraturo. |
